A fifth case of suspected monkeypox has been reported in Clark County, according to the Southern Nevada Health District.
The patient, a man in his 40s, has a history of travel and was isolating at home, health officials said.
The Health District previously reported four probable or confirmed monkeypox cases, one involving a person who was hospitalized.
None of the cases are related, officials said.
Monkeypox spreads through direct contact with infectious sores, rash or bodily fluids; prolonged face-to-face contact; or intimate physical contact, officials said. It can also be spread by touching items used by someone with monkeypox, officials said.
People with unknown rashes or lesions should contact their doctor and avoid intimate contact, officials said.
The Health District was awaiting delivery of an initial shipment of monkeypox vaccine for for patients and high-risk individuals, including close contacts and lab workers, officials said.
