MANILA, Philippines—Ateneo center Ange Kouame is set to be named MVP of the UAAP Season 84 men’s basketball tournament.

Kouame won the plum in lopsided fashion after pulling away in the statistical race with 69.21 statistical points.

La Salle’s graduating star Justine Baltazar was a distant second with 63.0 SPs.

Kouame, who is a naturalized Filipino, dominated on both ends for the defending champions, who finished the elimination round on top at 13-1.

University of the Philippines forward Carl Tamayo, meanwhile, finished as the league’s top rookie, beating La Salle’s Michael Phillips.

Tamayo helped the Fighting Maroons secure the No. 2 seed with a 12-2 record.

The awarding ceremony will take place on Wednesday before Game 2 of the finals between Ateneo and UP at Mall of Asia Arena. The Fighting Maroons stunned the Blue Eagles, 81-74, in overtime in Game 1 on Sunday.

Kouame, Baltazar, Tamayo and Phillips are joined by another UP star in Zavier Lucero in the Mythical Team.
