A Grateful Sinema Hugs Romney For His Vote Approving Progressive Lawyer Desai To Serve On Ninth Circuit
Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema hugged Sen. Mitt Romney for changing his vote against the appointment of progressive activist, attorney Roopali Desai, to a seat on the bench of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Desai was confirmed in a rushed 67-29 vote, after Arizona’s two Democratic Senators, Sinema and Mark Kelly pushed President Joe Biden to nominate her in June.
Desai has been one of the primary attorneys for the Democratic Party of Arizona in the Party’s numerous battles against election integrity efforts by Republicans.
Sinema has touted the fact that it was she who “personally” ensured Desai’s nomination was confirmed in record time.
“Ms. Desai is known and respected for her integrity, fairness, and wealth of legal knowledge, and I’m delighted to secure the broad bipartisan votes for her confirmation,” Sinema said in a statement. “As a judge, Ms. Desai will make Arizona and America proud.”

Desai has been a partner at the Phoenix firm Coppersmith Brockelman and has practiced law there since 2007. She worked briefly as an associate at Lewis & Roca and was a law clerk for then-Chief Judge Mary Schroeder of the 9th Circuit.
