Phoenix police are investigating an officer involved shooting that left a woman in the hospital with serious injuries.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, on May 22, 2023, around 7:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of 35th Avenue
and Glendale Avenue regarding a suspicious vehicle. When officers got to the area, they located the vehicle described and attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle failed to yield to the officers and took off.
Officers initiated a tactical surveillance which continued to the area of 19th Avenue and Phelps Road. An officer deployed a grappler and immobilized the vehicle just north of Phelps Road. Officers made contact with the woman driving the vehicle. She was given several commands, which she did follow. She then produced a handgun and pointed it in the direction of an officer. It was
at this time that three officers discharged their firearms.
After the shooting, the woman began to obey commands and was arrested shortly thereafter. She was transported to a local hospital where she remains in serious but stable condition.
This incident will be the subject of a criminal investigation and an administrative investigation.
