A man is in custody after Chandler Police began an investigation into the victimization of couples on their wedding day. Landon earl Rankin, age 54, is accused of stealing thousand dollars from couples during their wedding receptions.
On April 15, according to the Chandler Police Department, Rankin attending a wedding reception s dressed as a guest stole the wedding card box containing an estimated $3,000 – $6,000, and fled.
On April 30, 2022, Rankin attended another wedding venue reception dressed as a guest. Rankin again stole the wedding card box, containing an estimated $3,000 – $6,000, and fled. While investigating this theft, Chandler Police officers learned of an incident in Pinal County involving a theft of a wedding card box. Rankin was arrested and charged in that case.
Reviewing the surveillance video from the Chandler cases, Rankin was identified. It was later learned Rankin was the suspect in similar investigations in Mesa and Gilbert.
After Rankin’s arrest, police connected him to 11 incidents of wedding card box thefts in the east valley.
The Chandler Police Department is continuing to investigate and contact victims in these cases. They ask anyone who was a victim or has information the thefts to contact them.
Franklin was booked into the Maricopa County jail on two counts of third degree burglary, possession of dangerous drugs, possession of narcotic drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Rankin possessed methamphetamine and fentanyl during his arrest by Chandler Police officers
