On Wednesday, a University of Arizona professor was fatally shot on campus by a student.
At approximately 5:10 p.m., Arizona Department of Public Safety conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle outside of Gila Bend. The driver of the vehicle was identified as the suspect Marad Deruish and is now in custody.
The professor has not yet been identified.
The professor in the School of Hydrology and Atmospheric Sciences, was shot at approximately 2:00 p.m., at the John W. Harshbarger Building. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
