After some offseason departures, the Tennessee Titans have a ton of targets to replace from the 2021 campaign going into the 2022 season.
The biggest losses were wide receivers A.J. Brown (traded) and Julio Jones (released), both of whom combined for 153 (28.8 percent) of quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s 531 attempts.
Taking it a step further, 14 of the players who saw at least two targets last year are no longer with the team, making up a grand total of 351 targets.
According to CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso, the 66 percent of targets Tennessee has to replace is the highest mark in the NFL.
The biggest additions to Tennessee’s group of pass-catchers include wide receivers Robert Woods, Treylon Burks and Kyle Philips, and tight ends Austin Hooper and Chigoziem Okonkwo.
Players who saw targets in 2021 that are returning and likely to make the roster include wide receivers Nick Westbrook-Ikhine (57 targets) and Dez Fitzpatrick (eight), tight ends Geoff Swaim (40) and Tommy Hudson (six), and running backs Derrick Henry (20) and Dontrell Hilliard (26).
The Titans will need their returning players to step up and help replace those targets and production, and they’ll also need immediate contributions from Woods, who is coming off a torn ACL, and the rookies, who aren’t guaranteed to be ready to do so in their first seasons.
