A 77-year-old man was hit by a car and killed Friday while walking in a street in Sandy Valley, according to Metro Police.

The incident was reported about 9:30 p.m. Friday near the 1600 block of East Quartz Avenue, police said. Sandy Valley is an unincorporated community about 50 miles southwest of Las Vegas.

The pedestrian, a Jean resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name was not released, pending notification of his family.

The driver failed to remain at the scene, police said.

Vehicle parts located at the scene and witness statements indicated the vehicle might have been a silver 1993-1997 Toyota Corolla 4-door sedan, police said.

The man’s death marked the 76th traffic-related fatality this year in Metro’s jurisdiction. The incident remains under investigation, police said.
