INDIANAPOLIS — A Mexican man was sentenced after threatening to kill his girlfriend with a gun, according to the United States Department of Justice.

Jose de Jesus Rodriguez-Soto, who was also known as Pedro Torres, has been sentenced to 28 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm by an illegal alien.

“Violent, illegally armed abusers pose a profound danger to those closest to them, police, and the entire community,” said Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana.

According to court documents, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to investigate a domestic violence incident near Eagledale in Indianapolis on June 27, 2023. Upon arrival, a witness on scene reported to police that Torres came to the home with a pump-action shotgun and threatened to “kill them all.”

When law enforcement arrived, Torres was still at the home, sitting in his vehicle with a visible firearm. Torres reportedly resisted law enforcement officers, but they were ultimately able to arrest him and retrieve the weaponry safely.

The victim later told police that Torres sent her threatening text messages. The images (pictured above) featured a picture of the gun that he brought to her home.

Later that evening, Torres called the victim from jail and attempted to get her to drop the charges.

“Through our LEATH initiative, federal prosecutors will continue to work hand in hand with HSI, IMPD, and law enforcement agencies across the district to save lives by disarming domestic abusers and removing them from our communities,” said Myers.

Torres is a Mexican national in the United States without lawful authorization, which prohibited him from legally possessing a firearm.

The Judge ordered Torres to be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for two years following his release from federal prison.
