A convicted felon walked away Tuesday from a Nevada Department of Corrections facility in Las Vegas and remains at large, authorities said.
Roberto Munoz, 51, was discovered missing during an emergency count about 1 p.m. after he failed to return to Casa Grande Transitional Housing — a center for nonviolent inmates — following an appointment at a Department of Motor Vehicles office in Las Vegas, Department of Corrections officials said.
Munoz was last seen at a bus stop on Russell Road and Las Vegas Boulevard, officials said.
Munoz arrived at the Department of Corrections on Jan. 28 from Washoe County, officials said.
He was sentenced to 57 months to 12 years for three counts of grand larceny and one count of possession of a stolen vehicle, officials said.
The incident comes just over a month after another walkaway inmate from Casa Grande, 32-year-old Jeremiah Nichols, was taken back into custody.
Nichols drove away from a work detail in May and was arrested and released twice before he was taken into custody and held in October, officials said.
The Department of Corrections said that due to an “oversight,” no warrant for his return was initially issued.
