INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana University men’s basketball team looked different during their matchup with Northwestern at Assembly Hall in Bloomington on Sunday.

The Hoosiers debuted new uniforms designed by Adidas and Fear of God. IU’s new getup features black shorts and jerseys adorned with red numbers and letters.

The school’s official team colors are Crimson and Cream. The Hoosiers’ new threads received mixed reactions from fans after IU’s 76-72 loss to Northwestern.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, IU men’s basketball announced that its Fear of God jerseys would go on sale in the Hoosier team store on Feb. 18.

The IU women’s basketball team is expected to wear the black Fear of God uniforms on Thursday when it welcomes No. 4 Iowa and reigning national player of the year Caitlin Clark to Assembly Hall.

According to its website, Fear of God is “an independent American luxury fashion label, founded in 2013 in Los Angeles by Jerry Lorenzo.” Fear of God partnered with Adidas to launch Fear of God Athletics last year, per Vogue.

Adidas has been IU’s athletic apparel partner since 2004. According to CNN, IU agreed to a $53.6 million contract extension with Adidas in 2015. The Hoosiers’ contract with Adidas is set to expire at the end of 2024 unless another extension is reached.

IU is one of two schools to get an alternate uniform from Fear of God Athletics. Similarly to IU, the University of Miami’s basketball teams will wear black Fear of God uniforms this season. Miami’s traditional team colors are Orange and Green.

IU football debuted black uniforms during the 2023 season. The Hoosiers wore black attire during their 29-24 win over Akron in a four-overtime game at Memorial Stadium in September.
