Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced an agreement with a fourth Mexican governor regarding enhanced security measures at ports of entry along the southern border.
Abbott signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between his state and the State of Tamaulipas allowing for enhanced border security measures that “will prevent illegal immigration from Mexico to Texas and improve the flow of traffic across the international bridge.”
Prior to that, he had signed similar MOUs with Chihuahua Governor María Eugenia Campos Galván, Coahuila Governor Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís, and Nuevo León Governor Samuel Alejandro García Sepúlveda.
“Border governors can achieve results when we work together and put the safety of our constituents first,” Abbott said in a statement.
“While President Biden ignores the ongoing crisis at the border, the State of Texas will continue to work with heads of state in Mexico to further strengthen our comprehensive border strategy.”

Four might be the magic number for Abbott.
On the same weekend Abbott was signing his fourth MOU with Mexican governors as part of an effort to secure the border in Texas, he was also sending a fourth bus of illegal immigrants to Washington, DC.
This bus, however, only had fewer than 10 illegal immigrants from Venezuela.
One such individual said he had volunteered for the trip, having fled from the country due to “the corruption and because of the really high food prices.”

Governor Abbott announced two weeks ago that he planned to take several measures to secure the border with the looming threat of Title 42 being lifted likely resulting in an even greater surge of illegal immigrants.
Those measures included enhanced vehicle inspections and busing illegal immigrants to the nation’s capital.

Political Stunt?
The Political Insider reported that Abbott’s move to bus illegal immigrants to the capital is “a mostly symbolic jab at President Biden’s policies” noting that the participants would have to volunteer and that the preferable destination for the buses would be back over the Mexican border.
The governor’s site notes that “to board a bus or flight, a migrant must volunteer to be transported.”
White House press secretary Jen Psaki dismissed Abbott’s move as little more than a publicity stunt.

Vehicle Inspections
Abbott also ran into some trouble regarding the vehicle inspections when Mexican truckers began blockading the international bridge and causing major disruptions.
The disruptions allowed the Biden administration to take advantage and claim that the move was causing inflation to rise … in the past two weeks.
“Gov. Abbott’s unnecessary and redundant inspections of trucks transiting ports of entry between Texas and Mexico are causing significant disruptions to the food and automobile supply chains, delaying manufacturing, impacting jobs, and raising prices for families in Texas and across the country,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.

It is one of the more absurd comments you’ll hear coming out of an administration that has sent inflation numbers sky high since they took over the White House.
Hopefully, Abbott’s new agreements with multiple Mexican governors will prevent them from pursuing such a narrative.
Border agents and officials are reportedly concerned about a looming “disaster” of an influx of illegal immigrants once Title 42 is lifted by the Biden administration in May, suggesting the number of illegal immigrants crossing the border could surge to 170,000 per month.
The President’s own Department of Homeland Security is warning of much higher numbers, indicating “it is preparing for an influx of as many as 18,000 immigrants per day later this year.”
