INDIANAPOLIS — A woman has died after a reported crash between a go-kart and an SUV on the east side of Indianapolis, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

At around 10:01 p.m. on Monday, IMPD was dispatched to the area of 16th Street and Fenton Avenue on a report of a crash. When officers arrived, they located an adult woman, as well as an adult man who were involved in the crash.

IMPD said that the two individuals were operating a go-kart and were reportedly struck by a vehicle, identified by an officer on scene as an SUV. That vehicle did not stay on the scene.

IMPD officials said that the woman was pronounced dead at the scene and the man was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

When officers arrived at the scene, officials said that the SUV had already left the area of 16th Street and Fenton Avenue. Officers do not know what direction the SUV went or exactly what happened in the incident. IMPD did not provide a description of the SUV.

Police are looking for witnesses, as well as potential video, of the incident. IMPD said that they expect the intersection to be closed for “quite some time,” as the investigation into the incident begins.

IMPD said that out of an abundance of caution, homicide detectives with the department are on scene. IMPD-certified accident investigators are also on the scene to investigate the incident further.
