A woman died Saturday in a boating accident in Lake Pueblo State Park, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
The woman died “despite life-saving measures” by Parks and Wildlife staff, the agency said in a statement. The statement did not include any details about when the accident happened or what occurred; a spokesman for the department did not immediately respond to a request for more information Sunday.
The woman who died has not been publicly identified.
She is at least the fifth person to die on the lake so far this year. On Friday, a woman was reported missing from the shore at 4:37 p.m.; her body was found about 10 minutes later in water about 20 feet deep, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. She has not been publicly identified.
In June, a swimmer drowned in the lake, and in May, a boat with 13 people on board capsized, and two people died.
So far in 2022, 22 people have drowned in Colorado — that will rise to 23 if Friday’s death is confirmed as a drowning and to 24 if the woman who died Saturday is found to have drowned. In 2020, 34 people drowned in the state, a record high, and authorities have been pushing water safety this summer.
