STURGEON BAY, WI – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today presented Sturgeon Bay native Robert Nelson with medals he earned for his service in Korea. Nelson served in the U.S. Air Force’s 314th Air Division and deployed to Korea in 1957, where he helped stand up a new mission, United States Forces Korea.

After awarding Nelson with the medals, Rep. Gallagher said, “During his time in the U.S. Air Force, Robert Nelson made Northeast Wisconsin proud and played a crucial role in preventing the spread of communism. While this recognition is long overdue, it’s an honor to have the opportunity to present him with the medals he earned from his service to our country.”

During his time in Korea, Nelson earned two medals, which Rep. Gallagher presented to him today. These include the:

  • Korea Defense Service Medal, and the
  • Air Force Good Conduct Medal.
