Suspect captured after allegedly shooting 2 Alabama deputies

The convicted felon accused of shooting two Bibb County, Ala., deputies was captured Thursday morning after a massive manhunt.

Austin Patrick Hall, 26, allegedly stole a car Wednesday and then shot at the deputies pursuing him.

Two officers were rushed to the hospital, one in critical condition, shortly before 5:30 p.m.

“My son was shot through his brain today,” Steven Johnson wrote on Facebook of his son, Brad Johnson, according to AL.com.

“He still has a very small brain activity. His heart is still working . They are not giving positive outcome. Right now we are just waiting. I know the God I serve can restore. As long as I have breath.. 100% healing. In the natural he is gone.. so just keep praying.. Let God be God.”

Dozens of agencies converged to hunt for Hall until he was captured around 7: 30 a.m. Thursday, barely half a mile from the original shooting.

Since 2012, when he was 17, Hall has racked up more than 70 different charges, including including assault, domestic violence, drug possession and burglary. In 2020, he attacked an officer and tried to choke him while being held at the Calhoun County Jail.

“We are praying hard for the two Bibb County deputy sheriffs shot in the line of duty tonight,” Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey said Wednesday. “I’m also sending my prayers to the law enforcement currently searching for this violent, at-large criminal. God bless our men and women in blue.”
