You know we are suckers for a good Pittsburgh t-shirt, one of our favorite stores in the area is the downtown-based Steel City as many of their shirts capture what it means to truly be a proud Pittsburgher. The “I’m Just Here for the Pierogies” shirt is a great one to wear at PNC Park and the “Pittsburgh – So Many Rings it Should Be a Planet” shirt we could wear just about everywhere to name a few.
As this one has been selling its gear online and downtown for over 15 years, we were delighted to find out that they are now expanding to its second location, the aptly named Steel City Garage, to the Streets of Cranberry in Cranberry Township.
We were able to check out this store for a sneak preview and wanted to share more about what you can find here as well as details on their grand opening on April 30th!
Steel City Garage is Supplying the North Hills With Stellar Pittsburgh Gear
If you are familiar with the awesome Pittsburgh gear sold by Steel City, you may be wondering about the twist with the garage component of the Cranberry location. This one is “a tribute to the American worker” with the “American dream to build something or find something and make it better”.
The store lives and breathes this philosophy while also being an homage to growing up in their grandfather’s garage in Turtle Creek where they “learned how to run a business, how to treat your customers, and how to put in an honest day’s work” to name a few.
This sentiment is found not only in the decor of the store (featuring several vintage photos of their grandfather prominently placed) as well as in the design of products made exclusively for this location. (We also hear a rumor that they might be opening a coffee shop next door dedicated to their grandmother, so watch out for that soon!)
But if you are looking for some classic Pittsburgh gear, this store has you covered too as some of their iconic designs can also be found for sale as well, including their namesake Steel City shirt, the Yinz hat, and of course the pierogi shirt mentioned in the intro to this one. (Naturally, I had to buy that one during my stop- I 100% will be wearing this to my next Pirates game.)
For those who are up for a bit of a party, Steel City Garage is also having an opening weekend celebration on April 30th with food trucks, door prizes for the first visitors, and more. We’ve got the details on this one below so read on for more!
Don’t Miss the Grand Opening on April 30th
Steel City Garage is set to host its grand opening event on Saturday, April 30th with doors opening at 10 am. What all can you expect from the festivities? Well, we’ve got the scoop:
- Limited edition products that will only be available on opening weekend.
- Live music, food trucks (Hibachi Lou from 11 am to 1:30 pm and Graeter’s Ice Cream from 2 pm to 5 pm), plus guest appearances.
- Membership into the Founders Club for the first 50 people in the store for one free t-shirt per month for a year!*
- As this event is likely to be popular, we expect these to be claimed fast on Saturday- so get in early!
*Note: The first 50 people in the store on Saturday will receive a punch card for one shirt a month for a year. To redeem, Founders Club members must visit the Cranberry location each month to select a shirt in person. This promotion is not available for redemption online or at Steel City’s downtown location.
