The Stanley Cup made an unscheduled stop earlier this week.It is tradition for the trophy given to the National Hockey League (NHL) champions every year to make its rounds to all players on the team.The Cup was expected to be delivered to Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog on Monday. Instead, the prestigious trophy ended up in the driveway of Dmitri Rudenko and Kit Karbler, neither of whom are members of the Avalanche.The Denver couple was confused when they first saw a car they didn’t recognize pull up to their house.”I was the first one who saw the car being parked in our driveway. I saw the car backing up,” Rudenko told KUSA.”The person opens the trunk and I saw the case and I recognized it, because I watched the final games,” he said. “Jokingly said, ‘Is that the Stanley Cup?’ And he says, ‘Yes!'” It turned out that Landeskog lived nearby and the addresses were just one digit off from each other, which led to the mistake.Rudenko and Karbler said the handlers of the Cup were super friendly and they let the couple spend a few minutes with it. Karbler said he even got the chance to pick it up and said he felt like he was touching a piece of history.”They were gentlemen, completely. They were eager to share the experience of the Cup,” Karbler said. “I had no idea that I would find it so fascinating myself.”The couple didn’t want to hold up the handlers for too long, so they just snapped a few quick pictures and let the Cup be on its way.”It made our day, and it’s something that we’ll be able to talk about and laugh about for a long time,” Karbler said.
