Another week presents another opportunity for Southern Miss football to score its first-ever Sun Belt Conference victory.
This time, the Golden Eagles (2-3, 0-1 SBC) will get their chance at home, welcoming Arkansas State (2-4, 1-2) to M.M. Roberts Stadium on Saturday (6 p.m., ESPN+).
Both teams are struggling on one side of the ball. Southern Miss comes into the game with a bottom-30 offense, while Arkansas State is one of the 30 worst teams in the country on defense against FBS foes.
The Golden Eagles hold a 9-2 record against the Red Wolves in the all-time series. Now an annual affair after USM’s Sun Belt move, this contest hasn’t been played since 2008. On that day, Southern Miss defeated Arkansas State 27-24 in Jonesboro. The Red Wolves’ last victory over USM came in 1977.
The Golden Eagles enter this game as a four-point favorite, according to DraftKings.
