A shooting early Sunday at a house party in Pittsburgh left two people dead and at least nine injured, city officials said.

Police said they were called just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday to an Airbnb in Pittsburgh’s East Allegheny neighborhood, where about 200 people had been attending a party.

“As many as 50 rounds were fired inside, prompting some party-goers to jump out the windows, sustaining injuries such as broken bones and lacerations,” the city’s department of public safety said in a statement, citing its initial investigation. “Several more shots were fired outside the home.”

Police noted that many of the partygoers were underage and that, as responding units arrived at the scene, “additional shots were being registered in the immediate vicinity.” Several young people were observed fleeing the area on foot and by vehicle from a property that had been rented via Airbnb on Suismon Street and Madison Avenue, police said.

Two underage males were killed in the shooting, police said, and officers and emergency workers took some victims to hospitals, while others arrived on their own.

A spokesman for the Allegheny Health Network confirmed Sunday that seven victims had been taken to Allegheny General Hospital with gunshot wounds and other injuries. He did not provide names or details about their conditions.

Two other victims were taken to a University of Pittsburgh Medical Center facility, a UPMC representative said.

Officials are processing evidence at eight crime scenes, and detectives are interviewing witnesses and reviewing video footage.

A neighbor, Mitchell Wilston, 30, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that before the shooting broke out, a line of people had been waiting to go inside the house. “It was like a club,” he said, noting that police were near the scene before the shooting.

“It was so clearly underage kids,” Wilston told the newspaper. “These kids looked like they were 14.”
