MANILA, Philippines—Rosegie Ramos made a good account of herself in her Southeast Asian Games debut.

Ramos showed she’s part of Philippine weightlifting’s promising future after nabbing the bronze medal in the women’s 49kg event at Hanoi Sports Training and Competition Center in Vietnam.

The 17-year-old Zamboanga native had a total lift of 179kg.

Surodchana Khambao of Thailand set a SEA Games record with 195kg to win the gold while Dinh Thi Pham of Vietnam copped silver with 183kg.

The Philippine weightlifting team is expected to bring more medals in the coming days—one of which is from Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz.

Diaz, a cinch to claim the gold, competes in the women’s 55kg class on Friday.
