Buried beneath the Rockies’ recent avalanche of losses, poor fielding and terrible starting pitching has been the emergence of Brendan Rodgers as one of the team’s most productive hitters.

The second baseman had the first multi-homer game of his career in the nightcap of a Wednesday doubleheader against Miami at Coors Field. Rodgers also got a hit in both games, extending his hitting streak to 19 games. That’s the longest streak by a Rockies second baseman in franchise history. He bypassed DJ LeMahieu and Eric Young Jr., who both hit safely in 18 consecutive games.

Rodgers led off the second inning of Colorado’s Game 2 win with a blast to right-center off Marlins lefty Trevor Rogers. He led off the fifth with shot to left off of right-hander Louis Head and added to an already great night with a walk-off homer, lifting the Rockies to a 13-12 win over the Marlins in 10 innings.

The Rockies had only three hits in a 14-1 loss in Game 1, but Rodgers rapped out one of them, by doubling and scoring a run in the ninth.

Rodgers has done a 180-degree turn since the early part of the season when he hit .078 (4-for-51) with one double and no home runs in 14 games in April. Rodgers was scorching hot in May, hitting .347, with two home runs, seven doubles, 18 RBIs and 10 multi-hit games.

Daza hurting. Outfielder Yonathan Daza got hit by a pitch in his right elbow during the sixth inning of Game 1. Manager Bud Black said that Daza’ was sore and that the team was monitoring the injury. Daza did not start the second game of the doubleheader.

Minor league awards. Outfielder Daniel Montano was named the high-A Northwest League player of the week after going 9-for-18 with four doubles, one triple, four home runs and eight RBIs in five games with Spokane.

Lefty Mason Green, selected in the 12th round of the 2021 draft, was named the low-A California League pitcher of the week after throwing 7 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out nine vs. and nine strikeouts for Fresno on May 29 vs. Stockton. In five starts in May, he was 4-0 with a 1.13 ERA.

Gomber, who was so good early in the season, is trying to get back on track. Through his first five starts, the lefty was 3-0 (Rockies 4-1) with a 1.82 ERA. But he’s 1-2 (Rockies 1-3) with a 6.38 ERA over his last four starts. In his two career starts vs. Atlanta — both coming at PNC Park when he pitched for the Pirates — Gomber was 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA. He pitched against Atlanta on July 6 last season, tossing six innings and allowing one run on four hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Anderson got a no-decision in the Braves’ 6-4 win over the Marlins last Friday, giving up four runs on four hits and three walks over 5 2/3 innings. The 24-year-old struck out five. The righty pitched five scoreless innings but got hammered in the sixth, serving up two-run homers to Garrett Cooper and Jesus Aguilar. Anderson has faced the Rockies just once in his career, giving up four runs and five hits and four walks in three innings.
