As Democrats rush to find the nearest cameras and microphones to politicize the sickening shooting of 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, the NRA is scheduled to host their annual convention in Houston beginning on Friday.

But two Republican lawmakers who were scheduled to attend the convention have suddenly found themselves with “scheduling conflicts.”

Scurrying Away From Any Possible Controversy

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), the number two Republican in the Senate, had been committed to appearing at the event but issued a statement through his Press Secretary Natalie Yezbick that said,

“Prior to the tragedy in Uvalde we had already informed the NRA he would not be able to speak due to an unexpected change in his schedule. He has to be in D.C. for personal reasons on Friday.”

Also not attending is Rep. Dan Crenshaw, whose district includes Houston suburbs. Crenshaw opted to be even further away from the convention than Cornyn.

His Chief of Staff, Justin Discigil, told Yahoo News, “Congressman Crenshaw is in Ukraine and we let the event organizer know that he wouldn’t be back in the country in time to attend the event Friday evening.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and former President Donald Trump are all scheduled to attend.

Democrats Eager To Lay Blame

As is completely predictable, Democrats fell over each other racing to lay blame for the shooting on their favorite targets: Republicans, the NRA, and something called “the gun lobby.”

But the behavior exhibited by elected officials in the aftermath of this tragedy makes any previous post-shooting tirades look like child’s play. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez could actually be called “tame.”

“There is no such thing as being ‘pro-life’ while supporting laws that let children be shot in their schools, elders in grocery stores, worshippers in their houses of faith, survivors by abusers, or anyone in a crowded place. It is an idolatry of violence. And it must end.”

Of course, there are no laws that “allow” anyone to shoot innocent people.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who loses citizens in her city in the double digits every weekend to gun violence, ramped up the hypocrisy and had the cajones to issue a statement that read in part,

“As a nation, we simply cannot allow this to continue. Every single day, children and young people are losing their lives to people who do not value the sanctity of life and take advantage of the unabated presence of firearms in our communities.”

But perhaps the most outrageous example comes from Rep. Reuben Gallego (D-AZ) who offered up this bit of bipartisanship and unity:

Just so we are all on the same page, this is a sitting Congressman. His constituents must be so proud.

Joe Biden… The Unity President

On Tuesday evening, President Joe Biden spoke to the nation about the unthinkable tragedy in Texas. It was his chance to bring a grieving nation together, and be a leader in a time of grief.

But Joe Biden would have none of that. Instead, he launched into Democrat talking points about gun control, banning “assault” weapons, and the NRA, a.k.a., the gun lobby.

It was just too much for Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson. At the conclusion of Biden’s comments, Carlson gave an assessment of what Biden said:

“The President of the United States, frail, confused, bitterly partisan, desecrating the memory of recently murdered children with tired talking points of the Democratic Party, dividing the country in a moment of deep pain rather than uniting. His voice raising and amplified only as he repeats the talking points he repeated for over 35 years in the United States Senate, partisan politics being the only thing that animates him. Unfit for leadership of this country.”

To sum up, Democrats and the President of the United States have no qualms about using tragedy to advance their political agenda, while Republicans run as hard and fast as they can from an NRA convention. Maybe we should remember that in November.
