The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Red Flag
Warning, which is in effect from noon to 9 PM MDT Thursday. The
Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect.
* IMPACTS: Increasing Thunderstorm Activity will create erratic
fire behavior and new fire starts.
* AFFECTED AREA:
In Northwest WY Fire Zone….415.
In West Central WY Fire Zones…414…416.
* COUNTIES AFFECTED:
In Central WY…Fremont.
In North Central WY…Park.
In West Central WY…Lincoln…Sublette…Teton.
* WIND: Northwest 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
* THUNDERSTORMS: Storms will develop over the area Thursday
afternoon and continue into Thursday evening. New fires starts
from lightning strikes will be a concern. Locally heavy rain will
also be a threat from these storms, due to slow storm motion.
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are
either occurring now….or will shortly. A combination of strong
winds…low relative humidity…and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
