Florida rapper Rod Wave was arrested last week because his ex-girlfriend accused him of entering her home and choking her.

Wave, whose legal name is Rodarius Green, was charged with battery by strangulation after he was detained at a traffic stop May 1 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

A woman, identified as Green’s ex-girlfriend, said she was asleep in her bed when he entered the house and went to her bedroom, the Tampa Bay Times reported Tuesday. She said Green jumped in the bed and choked her until she couldn’t breathe.

When cops arrived, they saw the woman’s neck was scratched, according to the Tampa Bay Times. She declined medical care.

Green was arrested on a warrant out of Osceola County, near Orlando. His ex-girlfriend, who was not identified in court documents, lives in the area.

The woman called 911 and reported an attack on April 24, according to the Tampa Bay Times. She identified Green as the attacker. Police said Green was no longer on the scene by the time they arrived.

Green, 23, and the woman share two children together. Cops said both children were in the home when the woman was attacked, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

After posting $5,000 bail on May 3, Green was released from jail. He has pleaded not guilty to the battery charge.

Green, a St. Petersburg native, launched his music career while he was still a student at Lakewood High School. He burst into the industry with a startup label, Alamo Records, in 2018, and just two years later he cracked the Billboard Hot 100 with his song “Heart on Ice.”
