The city of Newport received $175,000 Tuesday for bridge maintenance and upgrades.The money is coming from a state grant. Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear presented the check to the city.The president of the Newport Southbank Bridge Company said it will match 20% of the grant, so they’ll actually have a $210,000 total budget.”It’s 150 years old, and it needs a little TLC. The same sandstone that’s on the Roebling Bridge is actually the same stones that’s on this bridge as well. So we need to do some maintenance there, and we’ll certainly have some exciting upgrades as well,” said Will Weber, president of Newport Southbank Bride Company.The bridge was closed for six months last year because of falling stones.

The president of the Newport Southbank Bridge Company said it will match 20% of the grant, so they’ll actually have a $210,000 total budget.

“It’s 150 years old, and it needs a little TLC. The same sandstone that’s on the Roebling Bridge is actually the same stones that’s on this bridge as well.
