Sports bars are targeted towards a male demographic, so we wanted to create a space for women to come and stay, and just feel catered to” says co-founder, Rasheda Cromwell in describing the vision of the salon. Rasheda Cromwell is not only the co-founder of Opal Beauty + Bar, but she also serves as the VP of Community Strategies for the Greater Cincinnati Foundation. In her role, she spends most of her time working to advance racial and gender equity as disparities in employment & earnings are growing, despite the fact that women are now the majority of the labor force. So, the idea of creating a place that caters to hard working women came naturally to her. Ms. Cromwell credits the ability for this idea to become a reality to her co-founder, business partner, and husband, Joey Cromwell. Mr. Cromwell, who has owned an event planning and promotions company since 2012, has created a name for himself throwing exclusive events from lavish birthday parties to invite-only product launches. He has built a high-end clientele on his unique niche of creating memorable experiences. In a sense, the couple sees their “couplepreneurship” as the key to their success. “We bring different forces to the table that compliment each other’s strengths and weaknesses” says Mr. Cromwell, co-founder of Opal Beauty + Bar. He says that working together as a married couple has only bolstered their business and “improved our communication as we learn from one another’s very different way of seeing things.”
