More parents are coming forward to file formal complaints with the Scottsdale Unified School District about what they describe as inappropriate discourse on the part of a young childcare worker in the District’s Pre-K and Kids Club programs.
On Thursday, an Arizona State Legislator joined other parents in the district demanding an investigation into complaints about a staff member discussing gender ideology with young children.
Scottsdale Superintendent Dr. Scott Menzel has denied that the incidents described by parents and their children ever occurred. Mincing his words, Menzel claimed in an email to one concerned parent, that an investigation into the matter found the complaints to be unsubstantiated.
Taking a very defensive position, one parents say they have grown accustomed to, Menzel did not stop at denials though. He went so far as to breach privacy protocol in the email by mentioning another parent specifically, accusing her of “defamation tactics,” and used a broad brush to imply that anyone complaining lacks integrity or empathy.
In the case of the employee, those who have complained agree that empathy is essential. While they do not want her to have any access to their children, after viewing a number of her postings on Instagram and YouTube, they have nothing but sympathy for the apparently troubled young person.
Neither Menzel, nor his spokesperson, have responded to the ADI’s multiple inquiries.
The employee in question, made their Instagram account private on Friday.

Arizona State Representative Joseph Chaplik, Jan Dubauskas, and Carine Werner demanded an investigation after hearing from children that the employee was eager to discuss her gender ideology with them, leaving children feeling confused and fearful.
“Education is a critical issue and parents are waking up to the reality of what’s happening in our classrooms,” they explained in their letter. “Our kids are being indoctrinated with woke ideology and being taught to hate our country. This time, we aren’t letting it slide. We are first advocates for parental rights, and we demand transparency and accountability from our school boards. We will not stop until our schools get back to teaching – not indoctrinating.”
Scottsdale Unified has seen its share of controversies over the past few years while experiencing sharp declines in student performance. Just last week, Governing Board member Jann-Michael Greenburg was sued by well-known civil rights attorney Harmeet Dhillion on behalf of Scottsdale Unified parents for collecting personal information and pictures of some parents and children in the district.
Greenburg and his father Mark compiled a “secret dossier” on parents they perceived to be enemies.
The Greenburgs are accused of engaging in a “conspiracy” to allegedly violate the parents’ rights including privacy and free speech.
