BROOKINGS – Mitchell has never won a girls golf team championship, but the Kernels are in a position to do so now.

Through 18 holes of the SDHSAA AA Girls Golf Championship at Brookings Country Club, Mitchell has the lead at 326, led by individual leader Allison Meyerink, who had five birdies Monday in shooting a one-under 71.  Aberdeen Central is one shot back at 327.

Pierre stands in third at 331, seeking the program’s first team title since 2013.  Madilyn Brakke led the Governors individually Monday with 79 and is tied for seventh.  Morgan Lisburg had a birdie while shooting 83.  Ellie Jo Simpson and Haley Nadeau also each shot 84.  Andrea Mosteller shot 93 and Hadley Hart fired a 97.
