Expanded access to recycling has helped push Michigan’s recycling rate to an all-time high in 2019, state environmental officials announced Monday, but the state continues to fall far short of the estimated national average.

Michigan’s recycling rate was 19.3% in 2019, which means a little more than 19% of solid waste generated in the state ended up in a recycling or composting facility that year. Michigan’s recycling rate was 14.25% in 2014.
