A man drove his car into a barricade outside the U.S. Capitol early Sunday morning, then fired indiscriminately, according to Capitol Police.

Officers responded to the scene around 4 a.m. after reports of a burning car and the man shooting into the air, officials said. Police were closing in on the man when he shot himself and died by suicide.

Nobody else was injured.

The man has not been publicly identified and the Metropolitan Police Department, which is handling the investigation, did not immediately return a request for comment from the Daily News.

Congress is currently on recess and the Capitol Police said the man did not appear to be targeting any politicians.

Responding officers did not have time to return fire before the suspect died by suicide, according to police.
