Lori Vallow’s trial delayed again

The trial for “cult mom” Lori Vallow is being delayed again.

The case will be suspended until Vallow’s “competency to stand trial can be determined,” Fremont County, Idaho, district judge Judge Steven Boyce ruled.

Vallow, 49, is charged with killing two of her children, Tylee Ryan and J.J. Vallow, in connection with a Doomsday cult involving her fifth husband, Chad Daybell. Tylee and J.J.’s bodies were found on Daybell’s property in Salem, Idaho, in June 2020.

Daybell, 54, and Vallow were scheduled to stand trial beginning Jan. 9, 2023, for the killings of Tylee and J.J., along with a host of other crimes. In his Thursday ruling, Boyce said that date would be vacated.

In 2021, Vallow was determined to be mentally incompetent and the court proceedings were pushed back for months. In April 2022, the judge ruled that Vallow had been “restored” to competency, and hearings resumed.

At an August hearing, she grinned and laughed as her lawyers requested a change in the charges against her.

The disturbing case was recently the subject of a Netflix documentary, “Sins of Our Mother,” that chronicled in part how Vallow and Daybell believed they would lead humanity after the upcoming apocalypse.
