Severodonetsk: Russian forces destroyed a second bridge to the besieged city overnight and were shelling a third to try to cut off the transport of people and supplies, said Serhiy Haidai, governor of the eastern Luhansk region. Russia now controls most of the city as battles continue over the Bakhmut-Lysychansk highway and the Azot industrial zone, where a fire broke out. Pro-Russian separatist leaders in Luhansk said 300 to 400 Ukrainian troops are encircled at the Azot chemical plant, although Haidai rebutted those claims.
Elsewhere in Donbas: Russian shelling damaged power lines in the northern part of the Donetsk region, forcing the shutdown of electricity substations and leaving people without power in some of the biggest cities of the broader Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, including Kramatorsk, Slovyansk, Kostiantynivka, Bakhmut and Druzhkivka, regional governor Pavlo Kyrylenko said on Telegram.
Slovyansk region: Russian forces are advancing toward this city in the Donetsk region and have made minor gains north of it. The General Staff of the Ukrainian military said its forces repelled a Russian attack Saturday at Dolyna, 15 miles north of Slovyansk. The Institute for the Study of War forecasts that successfully attacking Slovyansk will be difficult due to challenges crossing the Siverskyi Donets river.
Kherson: In the Russian-controlled Kherson region, Ukrainian forces have made progress in their counterattacks against Russian forces, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Saturday. Ukrainian forces recaptured the village of Tavriiske, and they achieved “certain success” in the Zaporizhzhia region, too, he said.
Mariupol: The Ukrainian attorney general said the deaths of 24 more children have been recorded in this southern city now controlled by Russia, bringing the confirmed number of children killed in Ukraine since the war began to 287. The civilian casualty figures are incomplete, authorities have said.
