Kojima’s Xbox Exclusive Is Called OD And Involves Jordan Peele

Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear and director of Death Stranding, revealed a first look at his new Xbox exclusive tonight. It’s called OD and Jordan Peele is involved in it. The director of Get Out and Nope said the project is unlike anything players have seen in a game before.

Teased back at the summer Xbox gaming showcase, we still don’t know much about OD even after seeing its reveal trailer at The Game Awards. Kojima’s face scanner has clearly been busy though, with the footage featuring closeups of actors’ faces talking about ducks quacking, mad whales, and other cryptic animal riddles. OD will star Sophia Lillis (Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves), Hunter Schaffer (Euphoria) and Udo Kier (Flesh for Frankenstein). The game is being made in Unreal Engine.

After the trailer, Kojima brought Peele on stage to talk about the upcoming partnership. It’s not clear if the writer director will be acting in the project or contributing in some other way. The two creatives talked about their friendship and affinity for one another. “What he’s cooking up here is completely immersive, utterly terrifying, and I am absolutely honored to be collaborating with the GOAT,” Peele said.

“We are working with Xbox Game Studios and their cloud gaming technology to take on the challenge of creating a very unique, immersive, and totally new style of game–or rather, a new form of media,” Kojima wrote in a press release. The game is apparently about the “concept of testing your fear threshold, and what it means to OD on fear–while blurring the boundaries of gaming and film.”

When pressed for more details by TGA host Geoff Keighley during the show, Kojima was as opaque and tightlipped as ever. “So what I can say right now is it’s not just Jordan, I have other creative collaborative partners on board with me on this project,” Kojima responded. “I can’t really say who righ tnow but they are legends. I actually call them the Avengers.”

Kojima’s game studio, founded years ago after his messy fallout with Metal Gear pubisher, Konami, is also still working on the PlayStation 5 exclusive Death Stranding 2. No date was given for OD, which means it’s still probably years away at best. Whenever it does arrive it will likely be a Game Pass game since Xbox Game Studios is pubishing it.
