Kevin Samuels, a polarizing YouTube personality with more than 1.4 million followers died on Thursday, Atlanta police confirmed.
Samuels was a self-described image consultant and influencer, whose controversial views on relationships and comments on Black women sparked passionate comments from people who called him an “inspiration” and others who said he was a “misogynist” who “made a career off of shamelessly disgracing Black women for profit.”
According to the Atlanta Police Department, a woman called 911 on Thursday to report that a Black male was “unresponsive on the floor of his apartment.”

The man was Samuels. The woman, Alcantara Ortensia, told authorities that she had spent the night with him and that in the morning he complained about chest pains, before falling on top of her.
Ortensia, who’s a nurse, called 911 and also requested a defibrillator from the front desk of the apartment complex.
When emergency personnel arrived, they transferred Samuels to Piedmont Hospital.
Samuels’ age has been reported as 56 and 57. According to the incident report, he was born in 1965.
He had more than 1.4 million YouTube subscribers and over 1.2 million Instagram followers. His videos were often criticized for the way he spoke about women.
Last week he sparked fury on social media after calling unmarried women over 35 “leftovers.”

“You are what is left,” he said in a video shared with his 1.2 million Instagram followers.
“Men know that there is likely something wrong with you. Whether you want to hear it or not, I’m going to go there with you. I’m telling you the truth that you don’t want to hear,” he added.
On Wednesday, on his last Instagram post, he denigrated Black women who were educated and accomplished. “Can you cook?” he asked.
The video, titled “Modern Women are a Party of 1″ was viewed more than 1.8 million times.
“Kevin Samuels has made a career off of shamelessly disgracing Black women for profit,” journalist Ernest Owens, tweeted on Thursday.
“He emboldened the most toxic individuals to project tired and harmful narratives about Black women,” he added. “Dead or alive, what a disgraceful life to live.”
The tweet has been liked by more than 31,000 Twitter users, as of Friday evening.
