RAPID CITY – Pierre’s Spencer Kelly upset top seed Keaton List of Yankton Tuesday to win the #5 singles flight state championship at the SDHSAA Class A Boys Tennis State Championship.
Kelly survived a first-set tiebreak to defeat List, 7-5 (7-6), 6-3. Earlier, Kelly had defeated Mitchell’s Josh Grosdidier in the semifinal, 6-4, 6-4.
#4 singles top seed Luke Leingang fell short in his bid for a second straight state championship, falling to Harrison Krajewski in the title match, 6-3, 7-5.
Blake Judson finished third in the #2 singles flight. Carter Schulz was fourth in the #6 singles flight. Kelly and Leingang finished fourth in the #2 doubles flight.
The Governors as a team ended in fifth place with 282.5 points. Yankton won the team championship for the first time.
