Police in Shawnee, Kansas, are spreading some holiday cheer thanks to a little help from Secret Santa. Shawnee is located about 10 miles outside of Kansas City. It was a different kind of police patrol on Wednesday. Officers were on the lookout for people in the community to pass out a donation from an anonymous donor.”Spreading some holiday cheer. It makes the citizens feel good. It makes the officers feel good,” said police Officer Michael Velasquez.It’s a random giveaway. On days when officers are not on calls, they go looking for people to give out money.”They’re asked if they want to do it and they’ve come in with some good stories,” said police Sgt. Matt Berger.”I got a little choked up, but it was really neat to provide the $100 bill. She didn’t expect it,” Velasquez said.The police department has been doing the holiday tradition for almost a decade. They say thanks to the anonymous donor, officers are able to get out into the community and put smiles on people’s faces.”That’s yours, my friend,” Velasquez said. “I was just like thinking to myself I ain’t going to make it to the next payday,” one man said. “If I can maybe make someone’s day a little better by providing the $100 bill, I’m all for it,” Velasquez said.Watch the video above for the full story.
