The suspect from an Interstate 280 wrong-way crash that killed a San Francisco mom pleaded not guilty in a Thursday court hearing, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office told SFGATE.
Constellatia Martin, 24, was charged with five felonies and one misdemeanor after allegedly driving north in I-280’s southbound lanes near Woodside on April 22, crashing head-on with another vehicle.
Eden Palmer, 54, died at the scene after Martin allegedly hit her vehicle. Palmer’s 14-year-old son was also in the car and had severe injuries, CHP said.
Following the crash, CHP reports said Martin was allegedly “naked, laying down on a grassy area, 150 yards away” and screamed out “numerous bizarre statements,” Sean Gallagher, a spokesperson for the department, confirmed with SFGATE.
Prosecutors also said Martin’s eyes were “red and watery” and her behavior was “erratic,” Gallagher confirmed.
Gallagher said the department is unable to go into detail about what statements she made.
Gallagher said there is suspicion that Martin was under the influence, but the department is waiting for blood test results.
Martin is in San Mateo County jail without bail, according to jail records. She is expected to appear in court for her preliminary hearing July 18 at 9 a.m.
