Thursday was an up-and-down night on the Southern Miss football recruiting front. 

Minutes after the Golden Eagles landed a commitment from Alabama offensive lineman Jayden Hobson, they lost one from Louisiana defensive end Jonathan Bax. 

Bax, a three-star prospect, was the No. 2-rated member of the Golden Eagles’ 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.

Listed at 6-foot-2, 230 pounds, the Edna Karr edge rusher has been the subject of Power Five interest. 

He received an offer from Baylor over the weekend, and also holds offers from Duke, Nebraska and Colorado. 

“Southern Mississippi is a special place with special people and is full with love and energy,” Bax wrote on Twitter. “But, after a long talk with my family and coaches, I have decided to decommit from Southern Mississippi.”
