Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department deputies were involved Friday afternoon in a standoff with a driver following a pursuit that came to an end on railroad tracks in Boyle Heights.
According to authorities, at around 2:25 p.m. LASD Airship was overhead a stolen vehicle. A chase ensued, beginning in the Norwalk area on the 605 Freeway and transitioning to the 5 Freeway.
The driver was traveling the wrong way at one point, then crashed through a fence an onto the railroad tracks.
The SUV stalled onto the track and became disabled, according to LASD.
The driver then ran from the vehicle before his path was blocked by a moving freight train.
The man returned to the SUV, barricading himself in and placing a reflective strip of material, possibly a sun shade, in the windshield.
LASD Norwalk and East LA personnel approached the vehicle, under direction of the LASD Airship, and the driver surrendered.
Authorities say he was taken into custody without further incident.
