Throughout the morning, crime scene technicians and evidence specialists could be seen gathering the critical DNA and ballistics left behind as community activists say once again, it’s access to guns at the center of this crisis. “It’s so easy for folks to get ahold of these guns, and get in the wrong hands,” Cincinnati Works Mitchell Morris said. Police have aggressively worked on these latest incidents of violence, but Mayor Pureval agrees with activists. There must be a comprehensive community effort, along with changes in attitude to bring the shootings to an end.”We need community support, and we need the citizens of Cincinnati to recognize this devastating trend and work with us to resolve these differences without gunfire,” Mayor Pureval said. While police search for the shooters, community activists say they must continue to seek solutions. “They got all these youth programs they’re starting now. It’s a lot of people that’s putting in a lot of good work to try to turn this thing around, you know, so we just got to tweak some things and this is going to end up being a safe city once again,” Morris said. Community advocates say that there must be other ways to work through this system of violence that we’ve seen, this uptick that has been ongoing in the city, but for now, they say that it takes community support.
