CANTON, S.D. (KELO) – Downsizing or moving into a retirement home can be a stressful task for seniors. But a new franchise in Sioux Falls is ready to help.
Janet Kramer has been in her new home for a week now, but downsizing from her old acreage house wasn’t an easy task.
“There was so much to be moved, there was so many places to empty and so many things to do it was unbelievable,” Kramer said.
She didn’t have to do it alone, though, thanks to a franchise her daughter recently brought to the Sioux Falls area.
“Caring Transitions is kind of the bookends of a moving project, especially focusing on seniors, where we will do all the work prior to moving — the packing, we will do the downsizing, the sorting and organizing and helping list things for sale,” Kristin Goodroad, owner of Caring Transitions of Sioux Falls SW, said.
They also help with the unpacking process in the new home.
“We’ll do the putting away, hanging the pictures up, putting their clothes in the closet, just so everything is done for them,” Goodroad said. “We call it day one living. So they basically can wake up in their new home and it just is done. They don’t have to lift a finger if they don’t want to.”
Kramer says the help was a blessing after losing her husband earlier this year and then suffering from a fall.
“It’s worth every bit of it,” Kramer said. “It really is because all of a sudden you’re so overwhelmed and so stressed and so much to do. You know, you just got to, you just have to have help.”
There are other services Caring Transitions will help with as well, including de-cluttering for seniors wanting to age in place. And if you want to help the organization out, they are looking for employees. To learn more about the organization, click here.
