INDIANAPOLIS — The Circle City will be the home of Big Ten basketball tournaments for the next three years as the conference’s best teams duke it out in Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
“We are thrilled with the conference’s decision to have the Big Ten Women’s and Men’s Basketball Tournaments return to Indianapolis,” said Indiana Sports Corp President Patrick Talty. “Together, with our partners throughout the community, we will continue the storied tradition of Big Ten basketball while working to further enhance the tournament experience for the member institutions, student-athletes, coaches, and fans.”
In 2025, Indianapolis will play host to both the Big Ten women’s and men’s basketball tournaments. The 2025 TIAA Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament will take place March 5-9 at Gainbridge with the 2025 TIAA Men’s Basketball Tournament kicking off a few days later March 12-16.
The 2025 tournaments will be the first to feature a 15-team field from across the newly expanded 18-team conference. Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington joined the Big Ten Conference this summer.
“Indianapolis will be an exciting post-season opportunity for our student-athletes, coaches, and fans, both locally and from across the country” said Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti.
The Big Ten Women’s tournament will return to Indianapolis in 2026 with the men’s tournament taking a year off from Indy before returning to the Circle City in 2027.
This announcement continues a storied history of Indianapolis hosting Big Ten basketball tournaments. The women’s tournament has been held in Indianapolis 27 times with the men’s tournament descending on the city 13 times — most recently in 2022.
This announcement comes on the heels of Indianapolis being named as the host city for the Big Ten Football Championship game which will be held in Lucas Oil Stadium through 2028.
Indiana will continue to be the center of basketball in college sports for the near future as the 2026 Final Four will be held in Lucas Oil Stadium. The city will also host the 2026 Division II and III men’s basketball championship, as well as the semifinals and finals of the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) that same weekend.
All three divisions’ championships will also be crowned in Indianapolis in 2028.
