EDMONTON, Alberta — Avalanche center Nazem Kadri had thumb surgery in Denver on Monday, TSN insider Darren Dreger tweeted ahead of Game 4 at Rogers Place.
The Post confirmed the surgery with a team source.
Kadri was injured in Game 3 on Saturday when he was checked from behind into the boards by Edmonton winger Evander Kane. Kane was issued a one-game suspension for the hit on Sunday.
Avalanche defenseman Jack Johnson called it the “dirtiest hit in hockey” on Monday, echoing similar statements from teammates and coach Jared Bednar in the immediate aftermath.
“It’s the dirtiest hit in hockey and we figured that some form of a suspension was going to come down,” Johnson said. “It’s unfortunate. Obviously, we’d love to have (Kadri) out there tonight, but it is what it is. When we saw him before he left he was in good spirits. He was positive and he’s going to do everything he can to get back during this run as soon as he can.
“And that’s everyone’s mentality — staying positive and staying focused and we got to keep going on and we’ll just keep our fingers crossed for him.”
