(Madison, Wis.)  – Martin Hanson, Treasurer of the American Society of Civil Engineers Wisconsin Section, issued the following statement today regarding the beginning of the summer road construction season in the Badger State on roads that have received a “D+” grade:

“With road construction season underway throughout Wisconsin, we appreciate the hardworking men and women who help maintain our roads and build the infrastructure the public use every day and more notably during heavy travel times like the summer months or during the holidays. While construction workers are doing all they can with the resources provided, Wisconsin must work to find a long-term funding structure for our infrastructure, especially our  roads, which received a disappointing “D+” on the 2020 ASCE Wisconsin Section Report Card.

“Last year, President Biden signed into law the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) that represented an historic investment in Wisconsin’s infrastructure and is a significant step toward reducing our growing infrastructure investment gap in the Badger State. The Biden Administration has provided states with $110 billion in funding for more than 4,300 infrastructure projects. This is a good start, but more must be done in the long term. Now is the time to build on this momentum and for the first time in decades take significant steps to revitalize our aging transportation infrastructure, improve public safety, and create well-paying local jobs.”
