A New Jersey man tried to hire a $15 hitman to kill a 13-year-old girl in Texas, federal investigators said. The scheme failed, and the girl was not killed.

Armando Conceicao, 57, of Newark, contacted another man, identified only as “Individual 1,″ in May 2021 and paid him to scout the girl’s address, according to a federal indictment released Tuesday.

Individual 1 conducted a week-long surveillance mission. In November 2021, the two held a conversation during which Individual 1 provided an update: He’d found a third man who would kill the girl for “cheap, he’s charging 15 bucks, 10 bucks, problem solved,” the feds said.

At the time of that conversation, Individual 1 was wearing a recording device, NJ.com reported.

Individual 1 asked Conceicao what to do if the girl’s family was home. According to the feds, Conceicao responded, “finish with the rest, I don’t care.”

The feds did not say why Conceicao wanted the girl dead or how they foiled the plot.

Conceicao was formally charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder for hire and one count of causing another person to travel interstate with intent to murder for hire.
