Multiple students at the University of Pittsburgh were injured this weekend during a party when the roof of a porch collapsed. It appeared to be a St. Patrick’s Day celebration, judging by all the people wearing green.

A bunch of students were sitting on the roof but the structure clearly couldn’t handle their weight.

Some students were even hospitalized.

The New York Post reported:

At least 16 injured when roof collapses at massive Pitt party: ‘Happened in the blink of an eye’

At least 16 people were injured when a roof collapsed “in the blink of an eye” during a massive bash near the University of Pittsburgh Friday, according to harrowing video and reports.

Footage circulating on social media shows the moment several green-clad revelers packed on an awning plummet when it crumples under their feet — and on top of even more partiers on the porch below.

One person standing under the collapsed roof made it out uninjured and lamented about the harsh end to the festivities.

“It just fell,” Carlton Gbur told CBS, adding, “Everyone was having fun, and then no one was having fun.”

Sixteen students were taken to area hospitals suffering from a range of injuries, with three in serious condition, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

This sort of thing used to be more common. Back in the 1980s and 90s, you would sometimes see a story about someone falling off of an overcrowded balcony during a college party. If you have kids in college, be sure to warn them never to put themselves in this situation.
