Jackson’s public bus system JTRAN will return to full service next week after several months of operating on a reduced schedule, city officials said.
JTRAN will begin its regular weekday service for fixed and paratransit routes Monday.
The city’s public transportation service was on a reduced schedule since mid-January due to a worker shortage, officials said in a news release.
During a Jan. 26 press conference, Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said there was COVID-19 infection among the JTRAN workforce, which led to delays in bus service.
He thanked the bus drivers and said bus service is vital for many residents.
“Often we fail to appreciate the importance of public transportation if we are not in need of it,” Lumumba said at the conference.

During the weeks of reduced service, some residents expressed difficulties getting to work on time.
“We want to let (residents) know we are doing the best we can to stand up this service that you depend on,” Lumumba said.
