A woman died after she was hit by a car in North Lawndale Sunday night, Chicago police said.
She was crossing the street at a crosswalk in the 1200 block of South Independence Boulevard just before 11 p.m. when a gray-colored SUV struck her, according to police. The car was reported by police to be driving at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the vehicle didn’t stop following the accident, police said. The Chicago Fire Department transported the woman to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver is not in custody. The Major Accidents unit of the Chicago Police Department is investigating.
