SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A woman was assaulted and robbed near the Sunshine Foods grocery store in downtown Sioux Falls.

Police say around 9:45 Sunday morning, a woman was putting groceries into her car when a man approached her and started hitting her. The man threatened to shoot her and she was hit in the head several times.

During the exchange, the man obtained the woman’s keys and stole her car. The woman called police. Officers were able to locate the stolen car within a short amount of time, Sioux Falls police spokesman Sam Clemens said.

The car was found near the 600 block of South Edward Drive in Sioux Falls. After a short foot pursuit, police arrested Peyton Leclaire.

Leclaire, 20, was arrested for First-Degree Robbery, Aggravated Assault, DWI, Underage consumption, among other charges.

Police do not know why Leclaire targeted the woman.
